About Central Ohio CHiefs Association

In 2023, the Central Ohio Chief’s Association, COCA, officially changed its name from Franklin County Chiefs Association to match the reality of its service area and became a 501 (c)(3) organization.

The association dates to at least 2007. Over time, the association membership grew to include several organizations in and outside Franklin County. The organization partners with courts, public health, EMA, federal, state, county, local, private LE, and other stakeholders to address current issues in the community.

In recent years, the association watched union officials become the voice for law enforcement despite the apparent conflict that the union’s purpose is membership-driven and not citizen-focused. Often, law enforcement leaders must delay comments for administrative and legal reasons. The delay may lead to citizen frustration, and a defensive union response may complicate that situation further. The association realized the people needed a professional group to verify best practices in law enforcement.

COCA aims to be a source of information for legislators, special interest groups, and citizens while maintaining the appropriate networking and planning for the needs of central Ohioans.
